Very well written - finally some perceptive and intelligent journalism in our depressingly lowest common denominator media landscape - thank you. As to the central idea, yes, based on logic it sounds plausible - let's hope Australia can muster up some dregs of logic and grow up into the role of sensible custodians this beautiful country most definitely deserves.
The smart thing to do is throw some goodies the way of the Teals, so they can say "we did this for <electorate>" next election. With the coal issue now effectively dead, and the power play won by renewables, the Libs/Nats now have nothing for which they stand, and nothing positive to offer. A DLP like split in the Libs , (as with the DLP split, based on religion), into a rabid Pentecostal fringe group and the last remaining moderates into a pastiche of the old Liberal Party, and the end of the coalition, with the coalhugging Nats confined to their rural enclaves.
This would allow the ALP to slowly drag itself back over the line into the left hand side of the vote compass diagram. Being careful not to frighten the horses as they so do.
